Diskarte is a Toronto-based trio founded in 2017 by Jon Catanus. They started as a backing band featuring various vocalists at their shows at art space "187" in Kensington Market, and evolved into a tribute to the prolific Japanese producer Nujabes. They now adhere to the philosophy and definition of the Tagalog word diskarte, fully improvising sets of groovy, soulful and intense music with a keen focus on the distinct voice and style of each individual musician. Stretching from virtuosic uptempo shredding to the most simple, sincerely delivered melody, there is nothing like the way these musicians strike the perfect balance between playfulness and wholehearted commitment to the music, each other, and the audience.
